CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT UCC HOSTS SILK ROAD ART EXHIBITION

Chinese art and painting is one of the essential parts of the Chinese national culture which has its unique charm and beauty. The Silk Road Art Exhibition was held at the Naana Opoku Agyeman Auditorium on the 4th of April, 2019 at 9am. Mr. Thomas Yaw Adjei Baffoe, the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mr. Anthony Kurentsir Sam, Mayor of Takoradi, Prof. F. E. Amuquandoh, the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Prof. Hu Liangcai, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute and Prof. Ishmael Mensah, the Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute were in attendance.  Also in attendance was Mr. Gao Jian, General Manager of the Greenhouse International Real Estate Development (Ghana) Co., Ltd. and Mr. Zhang Baoxin, who was the head of the delegation of 14 artists and painters from China. Prof. F. E. Amuquandoh, the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies welcomed the Chinese artists to the University of Cape Coast and also thanked the organizers of the programme. He acknowledged that that was the first time that the University had hosted such an event and hoped that it would enhance China-Ghana relations. Mr. Gao Jian, the General Manager of Greenhouse International Real Estate Development (Ghana) Co., Ltd. the organizers of the programme in his speech, indicated that he hoped the exhibition would help China and Ghana to exchange art and culture.

After the opening ceremony, the art exhibition was officially opened in the quadrangle of the Language Center. Invited guests and students moved to the quadrangle to witness the exhibits.  They also witnessed on-the-spot painting by the artists. About 300 students and teachers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast participated in the art exhibition.
