A remarkable event unfolded on August 2, 2023, as Keda (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited came alive with a celebration, marking the end of one semester and the promising beginning of another for its Chinese language course. This event not only celebrated the progress of the students but also showcased a vibrant exchange of cultures between Ghana and China.
Since the start of the year, Keda (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited and the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CIUCC) have joined hands to provide Chinese language courses for the dedicated workers of the ceramics company. Guided by the expertise of the international Chinese teacher, Jia Dongzi, the students have taken remarkable strides in mastering the language and deepening their cultural understanding.
The ceremony was an artistic spectacle, featuring a captivating array of performances. From mesmerizing martial arts displays to the witty banter of Crosstalk, the soulful harmonies of “As You Wish” sung by a choir, a spirited Chinese allegro performance, and a staged short play mirroring real work scenarios – each act illuminated the diverse talents of the students and their genuine affinity for Chinese culture.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Prof. Ou Yamei and Prof. Emmanuel Amo Ofori, representing the Chinese and Ghanaian directors of CIUCC respectively, Prof. Ishmael Mensah, the immediate past Ghanaian director of CIUCC, alongside key figures from Keda (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited. Their speeches not only applauded the students’ commitment and progress in learning Chinese but also underscored the shared commitment to deepen the cultural bridge between China and Ghana.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was a captivating Chinese speech by Mr. Robert, a standout student from Ghana Ceramics Factory. His eloquent delivery, fluent in Chinese, and his heartfelt embrace of Chinese culture left the audience in resounding applause.
Adding an extra layer of excellence to the occasion, exceptional graduates of the final exams were specially recognized, underscoring the high standard of the first-semester Chinese language course.
