CHINA DIRECTOR OF CIUCC, PROFESSOR HU LIANGCAI MEETS WITH THE HEADMISTRESS OF UNIVERSITY PRACTICE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (UPSHS).
On June 12, 2017 Professor Hu Liangcai, the China Director for Confucius Institute – University of Cape Coast visited University Practice Senior High School (UPSHS). Professor Hu met the Headmistress, Mrs. Paulina Nyankah and Mr. Samuel Mintah, the Coordinator for the center at the school. Arriving at the Headmistress’ Office, Prof. Hu inquired about the progress of the program at the school. Mrs. Paulina Nyankah reported that the Program is going on well. She also explained that classes couldn’t take place last week because the students went on a midterm break to allow the Junior High School Candidates to write their Final Exams at the school.
Prof. Hu asked the Headmistress and the Coordinator to encourage the students to take the classes seriously and that the Confucius Institute will organize the HSK test in future. He explained that the Institute is waiting for Accreditation from China since the HSK is an International Exams. Prof. Hu found out that about 160 students have joined the classes and out of that, 120 of them have registered and attend classes regularly. Prof. Hu explained that there are measures in place to improve teaching and learning at the center. He stated that the Institute has applied for teaching and learning aids from Hanban – China. The Headmistress then requested for projectors to assist them in teaching and learning, and Prof. Hu indicated that the Institute will apply for projectors soon.
The Headmistress added that the school will vacate on July 28th, 2017 and she wanted to know if there will be any vacation classes for the students. Prof. Hu answered that it will be possible to have the vacation classes for the students. There was an agreement that Prof. Hu will be given more than 20 minutes to talk to the parents of the students on Friday, 16th June, 2017 during a PTA meeting. Prof. Hu will talk to the Parents about Confucius Institute, their programs and the vacation classes so that they will support their children to attend the classes.
Prof. Hu also spoke about the Summer Camp in China. He said that 20 students will be selected and given the opportunity to go to China for 3 weeks in August. The cost of accommodation, feeding and others will be taken care of by the Institute but the students will have to pay for their own air ticket. Two (2) people from the School’s administration will also be selected for the program in China.
Finally, the school requested for the purchase of a website domain for the center and Prof. Hu gave assurance that the Institute will manage and buy the domain for the Chinese center at University Practice Senior High School (UPSHS). The Headmistress requested that letters of invitation about the summer program should be written by the Institute and sent to them as soon as possible.
