The Confucius Institute at UCC held the “2022 International Chinese Day” ceremony on the 7th of May, 2022, at 10:00 a.m, at the Naana Opoku Agyeman Auditorium (Amissah Arthur Language Center) of the University of Cape Coast.
Prof Ishmael Mensah, the Ghana Director of CIUCC gave a speech to formally welcomed participants to the program and congratulated the Chinese Students Association(CHINSA) for becoming a full-blown association. He also thanked the audience for taking time off their busy schedule to attend the ceremony. According to Prof. Mensah, the Chinese Day is a day set aside to commemorate the achievements of the Chinese people and also the development of the language as one of the official languages of the United Nations.
The ceremony was marked with a series of activities and performances from the Chinese students. Some of the activities included a charade section “what do you know” quiz section, and a character writing competition. These activities were very educative and played a great role in deepening the student’s understanding of China and the Chinese.
Also, there were great performances from the students Belinda and Lilian caught the attention of the audience with a Chinese song entitled “IF THERE IS NO YOU”. The models also exhibited different Chinese clothes on stage while the B. A Chinese student performed a play on the importance of learning Chinese language. Other activities included a cross-language talk by Ophelia and Benedicta, a cross-talk by Alhassan, a martial arts performance by Enoch Essel, and a song by YCT kids.
The masters of the ceremony for the event were Mr. Joseph Kyeremanteng and Ms. Belinda Durowaa Koomson.
