The Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast on Saturday, February 3, 2018 held an orientation for over 200 new students who had enrolled on its outreach Chinese language and culture training programme for the 2017/2018 second semester academic year at the C.A. Ackah Lecture Theater Complex. This orientation came following a week-long enrolment and registration exercise embarked on by the Confucius Institute on UCC campus.
Since its inception in June 2016, CIUCC has successfully registered and trained more than 2000 students and workers of University of Cape Coast, and over 1400 students and workers from surrounding schools and government institutions in Central Region. The orientation marked the officially commencement of the 2018 Chinese language and culture training programme.
In his opening address, Prof. Ishmael Mensah, the Ghana Director of CIUCC, warmly welcomed the students and introduced the Confucius institute’s programmes to them. He also challenged them to take advantage of the free courses offered by CIUCC.
All the foreign and local teachers in turns, gave brief introductions to the various courses they teach under the CIUCC outreach programme. Students were also given the chance to ask questions, offer suggestions and share their aspirations about the programme. Students were also given the opportunity to watch a video presentation on CIUCC. A total of 500 students registered for the Chinese Liberal arts programme whiles nearly 450 registered for the outreach programmes.
Prof. Ishmael Mensah, the Ghana director who also doubled as the chairman of the event, announced Monday, February 5, 2018 as the official date for the commencement of CIUCC teaching and learning activities at the various learning centers on UCC Campus.
