The Chinese language is gaining popularity and influence as China’s economic and geopolitical power continues to rise. Learning the Chinese language presents opportunities beyond making conversation to understanding Chinese culture, doing business with the Chinese, gaining employment in Chinese enterprises and international organizations. It is for this reason that more institutions are adding the Chinese language to their courses.
On 9th August 2023 Confucius at the University Cape Coast signed an MOU with Crownstar College and Greenfield School. The two institutions, located in Agona Swedru will introduce the Chinese language into their curriculum. At the signing ceremony, Mr. George Kofi Biney, Principal and Registrar of Crownstar College said “today marks a new beginning for students od the college to learn a second language, a globalized language”. In his remarks Dr. Baba Sempah, Director of Greenfield School said China is now a superpower and there is the need to align with the country, and tap into its development agenda. Mrs. Gloria Sempah added that the school kids are excited at the prospect of learning the Chinese Language.
It is expected that more MOU’s will be signed and Chinese Language teaching will be countrywide.
