In the month of August 2022, the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CIUCC) launched a research project to promote Chinese language education in Ghana. In line with this, 25 Senior High Schools in the Central Region, Greater Accra Region, Ashanti Region, and Western Region were surveyed, including eight University of Ghana Confucius Institute teaching centers and twelve CIUCC teaching centers.
The study’s primary objective is to better understand the current state of Chinese language education in Ghana, its learning and teaching needs, and its challenges. This way, suggestions can be made for future development of the Chinese language course and its integration into Ghana’s educational system.
After visiting 14 schools in the Greater Accra region, the fourth batch of 6 researchers which consists of four Chinese teachers: Mr. Charles Delali Adegah, Ms. Adelaide Safoa Kissi, Mr. Jia Dongzi, and Mr. Tu Santang, and two National Service Personnel; Ms. Claudia Osei Asumadu and Ms. Emmanuella Daniella Ako-Nai, who on 1st September 2022, completed the last round of surveys. The schools included the following:
