CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST HOLDS A PUBLIC LECTURE ON “HOW TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR”

The Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast on April 22, 2022, held a public lecture at the Amissah Arthur language centre (Naana-Opoku Agyemang auditorium) on the theme “How to Become a Successful Entrepreneur”. The Lecture was delivered by Mr. Tang Hong, President of Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Dignitaries present were Mr. Shen Hangming, the General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Yan Liquan, Vice General Secretary of the association, Prof. Ernest Laryea Okorley, the Head of the Sasakawa Centre of the School of Agriculture, Dr. Ebenezer Gyamera, the Farm Manager of the School of Agriculture farm, Prof. Ishmael Mensah, Ghana Director of Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast, and Prof OU Yamei, China Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast. Also present were teachers and students of CIUCC.

In her opening speech, the China Director, Prof OU Yamei welcome the dignitaries and thanked them for making time out off their busy schedule to honour the invitation. Prof Ishmael Mensah introduced the speaker for the program, Mr. Tang Hong. He indicated that Mr. Tang was a very successful entrepreneur who had established a number of businesses in Ghana including Tang Palace Hotel.

Before the lecture, there were a series of performances from the Chinese students including a song by Rachael Naandam and Seth Dickson, Chinese Comedy by Daniel, Martial Arts by Elijah, and Enock Essel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Tang first briefly introduced himself and provided some guidelines on how to become a successful entrepreneur using his personal life experience.  According to him, students should see the Chinese language  as an entrepreneurial resource. He as well encourage them to take the Chinese language serious and make more Chinese friends who will link them to job opportunities in Chinese companies. President Tang concluded that “nobody will be there to encourage you in life, you are to encourage yourself”.

After the lecture, the floor was opened for questions and answers.  As part of the lecture, letters of appointment as Guest Professors were presented to Mr. Tang Hong, Mr. Shen Hangming, and Mr. Yan Liquan. As Guest Professors, they will occasionally present lectures on diverse topics to students studying Chinese at CIUCC. Also, in recognition of his support towards the development of CIUCC, Mr. Tang Hong was presented with a citation of honour. In his closing remarks, Prof. Ishmael Mensah thanked the guest speaker and other invited guests for honouring the invitation and admonished the students to put what they had learnt to practice. The masters of ceremony for the event were  Mr. Ali Abubakar and Ms. Jiang Pei Yun.
