Introduction to Chinese Studies

This course aims to enable students to Master the basic pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading and writing of Chinese, understand the basic knowledge of Chinese characters and cultivate students’ communicative ability.

Elementary Chinese Grammar

Students can Master 150 most commonly used words and grammar knowledge. After learning this course, students can understand and use some very simple Chinese words and sentences, meet specific communication needs, and have the ability to further learn Chinese.

Oral Communication Skills

Through this course, students can gradually use simple Chinese to solve problems related to language learning and daily life, and can conduct simple oral communication with others on related topics. Students learn how to introduce themselves, to ask about prices, how to ask about money, how to ask about places, talk about dates and times, hobbies, etc.

Chinese Arts and Crafts

By studying Chinese Arts and Crafts, students can have a better understanding of Chinese culture and history.
Students will also be taught to do some handicrafts to increase their practical skills.

Intermediate Chinese Grammar

Through listening, speaking, reading, writing and other skills training, students can Master the 300 most commonly used words, grammar knowledge, and improve students’ comprehensive Chinese communication ability. In this way, they can have simple and direct communication in Chinese on familiar everyday topics, and achieve an advanced level in elementary Chinese.

Oral and Composition

Through the study of different scenarios and themes, students can accumulate vocabulary and sentence patterns, and be able to speak, read and write in Chinese, tell simple stories and describe things.

Chinese History and Civilization

Through the explanation of Chinese history and civilization, students’ interest in Learning Chinese is cultivated, their understanding of Chinese civilization is improved, and their ability of extensive and intensive reading is improved.

Chinese Grammar and Translation

It explains the basic rules of Chinese grammar in a simple and understandable way, aiming to clearly explaining the classification and usage of Chinese words, phrases and sentences through a large number of examples and diagrams, and practically improve students’ translation skills.

Chinese Characters and Calligraphy

This course includes two parts: Chinese characters and calligraphy. Chinese character course aims at students to Master the basic strokes, radical, structure, and stroke order of Chinese characters, and cultivate students’ Chinese character reading and writing ability. The calligraphy course aims to develop student’s skills in writing Chinese characters and let them understand the origin of Chinese characters and the art of Calligraphy in China.

Introduction to Chinese Literature

Through the introduction of ancient and modern Chinese literature and selected reading of literary works, students can improve their knowledge of Chinese literature, understand the different written forms of Chinese literature, such as poetry, prose and novel, and improve their reading and writing ability.

Chinese Usage

This course arranges writing tasks on different topics, uses language materials close to real life, through a large number of writing exercises, so that students can Master the correct writing format, and can complete more than 150 words of Chinese writing with accurate words, words and sentences, so as to improve students’ writing ability

Language and Translation Skills I

This course introduces students to translation techniques and standards. Through translation practice, students will Master intermediate Chinese grammar, vocabulary, idioms and other knowledge. By the end of this course, students will be able to Master word translation skills, sentence translation skills, and translate articles with at least 500 Chinese characters.

Comprehension and Oral Communication I

Through the study of different scenarios and themes, students can accumulate vocabulary and be competent in the keynote speech and scene performance of specific themes. They would also be able to listen and speak in Chinese, tell simple stories and describe things.

Traditional Chinese Culture

Introduce traditional Chinese culture through traditional Chinese thoughts, traditional festivals, traditional art, traditional architecture, Chinese folk custom, Chinese people’s life and other themes. Improve students’ reading ability and stimulate their interest in Learning Chinese through intensive reading and extensive reading design.

Research Methods

This course equips students with techniques and procedures for conducting research. Among topics to be discussed are problem definition, formulation of research objectives and hypotheses, literature review, research design, sampling procedures and data collection tools and techniques in fieldwork, data analysis and interpretation of results, budgeting for research and reporting of research findings.

Advanced Chinese Grammar

This course aims to enable students to Master advanced knowledge of standard Chinese grammar, with emphasis on cultivating students to understand the structure, usage and meaning of advanced grammar.

Comprehension and Oral Communication II

Through the study of different scenarios and themes, students can accumulate vocabulary and be competent in the keynote speech and scene performance of specific themes. Students would also be proficient in Chinese listening and speaking, using idiomatic and complex sentence patterns to discuss relevant topics and express opinions.

Language and Translation Skills Ⅱ

Through reading and contrast, students can effectively cultivate and form their own sense of bilingual language and Master the general skills and methods of translation unconsciously.

Business Communication in Chinese I

By the end of the course, students should be able to communicate more effectively in Chinese in the corporate world; Draft business documents in Chinese format.

Business Communication in Chinese II

At the end of the course, the student should be able to Communicate more effectively in Chinese in business situations; and draft business documents in Chinese format. The course takes practical business communication tasks as the main line, pays attention to listening and speaking, combines functions with topics, and achieves the purpose of improving communicative competence through various trainings. By the end of the course, students should be able to communicate more effectively in Chinese in business situations and as well draft business documents in Chinese format.
