On 19th May, 2020, Hunan City University, made a donation of anti-epidemic items to University of Cape Coast, the partner university for the establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast (CIUCC). The items included protective clothings and 1000 pieces of surgical nose masks to assist the University in carrying out anti-epidemic work, with Hunan City University pledging to continue to make donations through various channels help the University win the battle against the deadly Covid-19 virus.
When the new coronavirus broke out in China, teachers and students from various teaching centers of CIUCC and the University community showed love to China and the people of Wuhan in various ways. Videos were made to cheer the people of China and Wuhan particularly. Hunan City University thanked the is heart-warming and moving. Unfortunately, in March, the first confirmed case of new coronavirus disease was reported in Ghana, followed by a nationwide shutdown and suspension of classes.
The President of Hunan City University, Prof. Li Jianqi wrote to the Vice-Chancellor and the Directors of CIUCC to express his gratitude to the management, teachers and students of University of Cape Coast for heart-warming and good wishes extended to China. He reiterated Hunan City University’s unwavering support to the Confucius Institute and the University of Cape Coast to jointly deal with the epidemic that is sweeping the world and strive to overcome the difficulties as soon as possible.
Regardless of the extreme difficulty in logistics, Hunan City University went all length and breadth to purchase and successfully transport the items to support the University of Cape Coast. The Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof. Joseph Ampiah-Ghartey, expressed his gratitude to Hunan City University for their concern to Ghana, teachers and students of the university. The Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute, Prof Ishmael Mensah, also extended his gratitude to Hunan City University for the donation, commenting that the items donated shows a deep friendship of cooperation and mutual help between the two partner universities. He represented the Confucius Institute to accept the donation on behalf of the University of Cape Coast.
This novel coronavirus is ruthless and has no respect for color or nationality but as long as we are united, support each other, and follow the safety guidelines, we will eventually be able to overcome this epidemic.
