On the 6th of February, 2023 the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CIUCC)organized an orientation programme for fresh students of the institute. The programme was held at the Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang Auditorium. The programme was aimed at helping students to familiarize themselves with the programmes offered by the Confucius Institute as well as opportunities available for students who study the Chinese Language.
Addressing the students, the Ghana Director of the Institute, Prof. Ishmael Mensah welcomed and congratulated all freshers on their admission to the University of Cape Coast. He also informed the students about the role of CIUCC and the opportunities available to students learning Chinese in terms of jobs and scholarships. According to him, learning Chinese culture, politics, and business can help students to have a brighter future. He further added that the teachers of the institute are very open and welcoming and therefore students should go to them whenever they are confronted with any challenge concerning their studies.
In his address to the students, Mr. Li Liang, a Chinese teacher told the students that it is very interesting to learn a new language and urged them to make good use of the opportunity offered by the Confucius Institute.
With regard to academic work, Mr. Charles Delali Adegah, the Departmental Registration and Examinations Officer, introduced students to the various courses at CIUCC. These include Beginners Course, HSK 1, HSK 2, HSK 3, HSK 4, HSK 5, and Martial Arts. Dr. James Opoku Darko, the Internship Coordinator informed students about the scholarship opportunities available including Chinese Government Scholarships, Confucius Institute Scholarship, and Chinese University Scholarships. There were also presentations from Dr. Isaac Ibrahim, the patron of the Chinese Students’ Association, and Madam Grace Mensah of the Students’ Financial Support Office.
The programme ended with closing remarks by Prof. Ishmael Mensah who showed his deepest appreciation to all presenters, teachers, and students for making time to grace the occasion.
