THE UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST PARTICIPATES IN THE 22nd CHINESE BRIDGE COMPETITION (GHANA EDITION)

The University of Cape Coast has achieved great success in the 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition (Ghana Edition). This renowned international Chinese proficiency competition which when translated in Chinese is, Hànyǔ qiáo bǐsài汉语桥is an annual international Chinese proficiency competition for tertiary students and one of the most famous international Chinese language competitions for non-native speakers. It gradually has become a popular reality entertainment show on Chinese TV. The aim of this competition is to increase people’s understanding of the Chinese Language and culture. Since its inception in 2002, more than 600 contestants from over 50 countries have participated in the annual event.

Taking place at the University of Ghana on June 9th, the competition featured twelve exceptional students from three prestigious Ghanaian universities: the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CIUCC), the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Contestants delivered speeches on the theme “One World, One Family” and showcased their talents through various performances, including Allegro, Chinese tongue twisters, Chinese songs, storytelling, and cross-talk. The event was attended by special guests, including Mr. Tang Hong, President of Ghana Association of Chinese  Societies, Miss. Lou Danzhu, the Director of Political section of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Jin Zhengyi, General Manager of  Sunon Asogli Power, Mr. Liu Yunzeng  Sunda International group, Mr. You Yimao, Jiangxi International Company, Mr. Gong Lingyun ,  Head of ORAIMO brand, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor University of Ghana, Professor Ishmael Mensah, Ghana Director of Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Wang Jimin Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at University of Ghana and Professor Josephine Dzahene-Quarshie, the Ghanaian Director of Confucius Institute, University of Ghana were among the distinguished guests who graced the event.

After an impressive display of Chinese language skills and enthusiasm for Chinese culture, Daniel Sekyi Ansah emerged as the overall winner, followed by Seth Kojo Dickson in second place. Haneef Mohammed, Abigail Nana Ama Hayford, and Parousia Ama Appiah secured the third and fourth prizes respectively.

The University of Cape Coast’s participants have not only brought pride to their institution but also left an indelible mark, with their unwavering command of the Chinese language and their passion for Chinese culture,.
