A delegation from the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast (UCC), led by Prof. Ishmael Mensah paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University, Prof. J. D. Owusu-Sekyere on Monday, December 14, 2020. The leader of the delegation, Prof. Ishmael Mensah who is also the Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute, UCC, indicated that the visit was to deepen the relationship between Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) and the Confucius Institute and also to formally introduce Ms. Zhou Guiping who has been recently appointed as the China Director of the Institute. He noted that Ms. Zhou Guiping played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Confucius Institute, University of Cape Coast (UCC) so her appointment came as no surprise.
Ms. Zhou Guiping on the other hand thanked the Management of CCTU for their continued support for the institute, especially with regards to organisingstudents to study the Chinese language. She intimated that the institute looks forward to further collaboration with CCTU in other areas like Engineering and Student/faculty exchange programmes. She also stated that there were lots of scholarship opportunities for interested students who could undergo training to become local Chinese teachers.
The Vice-Chancellor pledged CCTU’s continued support for the Confucius Institute and requested for a well-established classroom to enhance the teaching and learning of the Chinese language. He also expressed his appreciation for the cordial relationship between the Confucius Institute and his university. He however called for further collaboration beyond teaching and learning of the Chinese language. Responding to that, Prof. Ishmael Mensah indicated that CCTU had been earmarked as one of the Confucius classrooms and hopefully next year that would be looked at.
Present at the meeting were Dr. Francis Narh Akrono – Registrar, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Director of Finance and Mr. Sylvanus Ametordzi – Coordinator, Confucius Institute CCTU. The delegation from CIUCC also included Ms. Li Yinbo, a Chinese Teacher and Mr. Charles Delali Adegah , a local Chinese Teacher.
