CIUCC OPENS DISCUSSIONS WITH Perez-UC TO OPEN NEW CLASS

The Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast on Wednesday, September 20, held a meeting with the Rector of Perez University College – Winneba to discuss a plan to open a new Confucius class at the latter. This new class will add up to the numerous Chinese language training centers opened in central region of Ghana by Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast by the support of Hanban.

This meeting followed the recent official visit by the rector of Perez-UC to the CIUCC office at the Amissah Arthur Language Center on Monday, September 18, 2017 to formally inform the directors about his interest to have a CI Class in his University. At the meeting were the two directors of CIUCC; Professor Ishmael Mensah (Ghana Director) and Professor Hu Liangcai (China Director), together with the Rector of Perez University College, Professor J. D. Owusu Sekyere, Dr. Carlos Robert Arrow, the registrar of Perez University College, and three other officials.

This meeting discussed modalities and structural requirements by the CIUCC to open the new CI Chinese classroom.

The two directors took a tour around the university campus to assess its capacity to host a CI Class. According to the rector of the University, Prof. J. D. Owusu Sekyere, Perez University College has more than 300 students currently and over 50 staff members who are all prepared to learn the Chinese language. In his words, Perez University College is only a young institution and therefore welcomes every opportunity. He described this idea of opening a Chinese language class at his university as a great opportunity for him and his university students and staff.

An MOU will be prepared and officially signed, in few weeks’ time, by the two institutions.
